Training Day 24 - 3.1.10

Today was my first training day of 2010 and after a week of boozing and partying I wasn't expecting today to go as well as it did.  Having hit a brick wall with the learn to run programme but having managed to run so successfully on my boxing day outdoor run, I decided to seek advice from the gym staff. They have advised me to work on interval training whilst in the gym to build on leg strength and stamina. So today I did 30 minutes of interval training spaced out into two minute slots of running and uphill walking. I also added a 5 minute warm up and warm down and completed the training with ease... so next time I will increase the interval time to 40 mintues long.  I did a lot of work on the weights for my upper body today too.

Using my new Nike + Ipod system, I recorded a distance of 3.76 miles with an average speed of 9'25" (but i have no idea what that is in miles per hour!) and a total of 468 calories burnt! Not bad... I now realise that the treadmils at the gym probably aren't that accurate and now I can see exactly what I am doing with my training progress I feel a lot more motivated again.

I am now going to aim to train in some shape or form every day as there is now only 4 months left until the Marathon!

Wow Emma, what an achievement and what a great blog. I can't believe you have such motivation to train on Xmas day! Well done on your training so far. I bet by the time April comes, the marathon will be a walk in the park (or maybe a run LOL! ) All the best. xx
